Rwandan National Dies by Suspected Suicide in Kisoro After Domestic Dispute

Authorities in Kisoro district are probing a suspected suicide involving a Rwandan national, identified as 45-year-old Samuel Habiyakare.

Habiyakare, who resided in Kagando village, Muramba sub-county, was discovered deceased on September 19, 2026. Preliminary reports suggest he may have taken his own life by hanging after an altercation with his wife the previous night.

According to police statements, Habiyakare reportedly expelled his wife from their rented home before barricading himself inside. He was found dead the following day.

Nelson Tumushime, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that officers visited the scene and have since transferred the body to Kisoro hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. He urged individuals facing challenges such as stress, depression, financial hardship, or family issues to seek support from their communities, including family, local leaders, healthcare professionals, or religious figures.

This incident marks the seventh suspected suicide recorded in the Kigezi region in recent months, with Kisoro district alone reporting three such cases in September. Other recent cases include James Kamari, a primary school teacher, and Babra Katusiime, a senior five student who died in August.
