Rubanda Leaders Urged by Finance Minister to Oversee PDM Fund Usage

Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Henry Musasizi, has urged Members of Parliament and local council leaders in Rubanda District to ensure the proper accountability of funds allocated under the Parish Development Model (PDM).

Speaking at Ikumba Health Centre III, Musasizi stressed the importance of leaders guiding beneficiaries on effectively using the PDM funds. The goal, he stated, is to enhance household incomes and facilitate a shift from subsistence farming to more commercially oriented economic activities.

He highlighted that the PDM program, along with other government initiatives like the Youth Livelihood Programme and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme, aims to support livelihoods across the country. To date, over Shs4 trillion has been disbursed through the PDM, with each parish receiving a minimum of Shs400 million.

Musasizi further indicated that discussions with President Yoweri Museveni are underway regarding the future funding of the PDM. There is consideration being given to increasing funds for larger parishes, a move that would address varying sizes and needs across different parishes nationwide.

During his visit, Minister Musasizi also challenged the residents of Rubanda to evaluate his performance based on his ability to secure development resources for the district through the national budget. He stated that he does not seek recognition through ceremonial gestures but rather through the tangible inclusion of Rubanda’s development priorities in national planning and budgeting.

His call for diligent oversight of PDM funds aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to implement programs that enhance access to capital and support income-generating activities at the household level.
