A shooting incident involving a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Austin, Texas, has ignited local anger and demands for transparency. The man, identified as 28-year-old Venezuelan national Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, was shot in the torso and subsequently hospitalized.

Details surrounding the Sunday afternoon event remain scarce, but Garces Perez’s attorney confirmed he was in ICE custody and sustained a gunshot wound. Local officials, including the Mayor, have expressed strong concerns, emphasizing the community’s right to know what transpired and to feel secure.

“Austinites have a right to know what happened and a right to feel safe in their city,” stated Mayor Kirk Watson, calling for an independent probe into the shooting.
