Don Chris Faces Over 350 New Charges in Shs1.4 Billion Job Scam

The legal troubles for businessman Christian Asiimwe, widely recognized as Don Chris, have escalated dramatically. The State has introduced an additional 350 charges against him, alleging involvement in a job scam amounting to Shs1.4 billion.
These new accusations were formally presented at the City Hall Court, leading to a postponement of the hearing for six existing files. The prosecution intends to formally arraign Asiimwe on these fresh allegations.
The courtroom saw an overwhelming presence of complainants, filling the space as Asiimwe appeared before Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Nicholas Aisu. The prosecution, represented by Ms. Miriam Akite and Ms. Mercy Yamangusho, revealed that the expanded case now includes seven new files.
Each of these new files contains 50 counts of obtaining money by false pretences. Collectively, these charges suggest that the total sum defrauded from job seekers now stands at approximately Shs1.4 billion, with each of the seven new files representing around Shs200 million in alleged fraudulent transactions.
This significant increase in charges indicates a broadening scope of the investigation into the alleged job scam orchestrated by the socialite. Further court proceedings are expected as the prosecution prepares to lay out the full extent of the allegations against Mr. Asiimwe.
