Koboko Airfield Slated for Upgrade, Encroachers Must Relocate

Residents who have occupied portions of the Arumaji airfield land in Koboko District have been issued a stern directive by the government to prepare for relocation. The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced that the land is being reclaimed for a significant upgrade of the airfield.
Minister Fred Byamukama, speaking alongside other regional ministers including State Minister for ICT, Mr. Odria York Alionzi, State Minister for Health Dr. Charles Ayume, and State Minister for Cooperatives, Mr. Alero Tom Aza, confirmed that the government’s plans to expand and revive the airfield are in advanced stages.
The initiative aims to transform the current airfield into an airport, a move expected to boost economic activities and connectivity within the region. The ministers emphasized the government’s commitment to this project, highlighting the importance of securing the land for its successful implementation.
Koboko District Chairperson, Ashraf Mambo, has pledged to follow up on the government’s commitment, ensuring that the airfield upgrade proceeds once the land is fully secured. The relocation process is expected to be managed to minimize disruption to the affected residents.
