IGG Warns Police Officers Against Charging for Bond

Newly appointed Inspector General of Government (IGG), Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala, has unequivocally stated that any police officer demanding payment for the issuance of police bonds, recognisance bonds, or appearance bonds will face legal consequences, including potential prosecution. Justice Batala clarified that these procedures are legal services that do not require any financial contribution from the public.
This strong stance by the IGG is a clear indication of the government’s commitment to combating corruption within law enforcement agencies. Police bonds are essential legal instruments that ensure suspects appear in court as required, and their administration should be free from any form of bribery or extortion.
The IGG’s office intends to closely monitor police activities to ensure compliance with this directive. Police officers found engaging in such corrupt practices will be subjected to disciplinary action and possible criminal charges.
