Kololo Ceremonial Grounds buzzed with activity as Generation Z youth gathered to commemorate President Yoweri Museveni’s 82nd birthday. The occasion served as a platform for young Ugandans to not only celebrate the President but also to deeply engage with his developmental agenda.
Central to the discussions was President Museveni’s emphasis on patriotism, urging citizens to foster national unity and reject tribalism and discrimination. He stressed the significance of Pan-Africanism, viewing the continent’s vast market as a critical opportunity for Uganda to boost trade and production.
The President’s message, delivered by Vice President Jessica Alupo, also underscored the necessity of industrialization and value addition. This, he explained, is key to creating jobs for the youth, enabling Uganda to export finished goods, and maximizing international market earnings.
Wealth creation was highlighted as a collective responsibility, with a call for all households to actively participate in the money economy. The President identified commercial agriculture, industry, services, and ICT as crucial sectors for generating wealth and employment. He also urged vigilance against corruption and encouraged government agencies to guide citizens on available opportunities.
Vice President Alupo lauded the President’s focus on empowering Ugandans through wealth creation, education, and skilling programs. She encouraged the youth to leverage government initiatives like the Parish Development Model and Emyooga, stressing the importance of value addition to raw materials and participation in the East African Community market.
Representatives from Gen Z expressed gratitude for the peace and stability in Uganda, attributing these gains to President Museveni’s leadership. They pledged to embrace the President’s vision, take responsibility for their futures, and actively contribute to the nation’s socio-economic transformation.
