Leaders in Uganda’s Busoga sub-region are turning to spiritual means to catalyze its socio-economic revival. The Busoga Consortium for Development has organized the fourth annual Busoga Prayer Week, a significant event aimed at placing divine guidance at the forefront of the sub-region’s transformation efforts.
According to Anthony Mula, Director General of the Busoga Consortium for Development, the initiative is rooted in the belief that faith provides a stable moral and foundational framework, essential for sustainable development. “Without a spiritual anchor, our structural and economic efforts will be built in sinking sand,” Mula stated at a press conference in Kampala.
The prayer week, scheduled from September 21 to September 27, 2026, will feature daily interdenominational services hosted by various religious bodies and government officials. The theme for this year’s event is “Let us unite and rebuild,” drawing inspiration from the Book of Nehemiah.
The climax of the week will be an interdenominational gathering on Sunday, September 27, at the Mayuge District headquarters. President Yoweri Museveni is expected to grace this occasion as the guest of honor, underscoring the government’s attention to the sub-region’s development agenda. The event aims to foster collective responsibility among stakeholders, leaders, and the people of Busoga to accelerate economic and social progress.
This spiritual undertaking complements ongoing efforts by the Busoga Consortium, which has been focusing on key sectors like tourism, education, industry, and agriculture since 2022, in an attempt to restore Busoga’s former prominence as an East African industrial hub.
This initiative follows a 2020 National Development Plan report that identified Busoga as a sub-region that had not performed as well as others, prompting these focused interventions for change.
