Museveni lauds Kyabazinga for fostering unity and peace in Busoga

President Yoweri Museveni has attributed the growing peace and unity in the Busoga sub-region to the efforts of the Kyabazinga, William Nadiope Gabula IV. Speaking at the 12th coronation anniversary celebrations held in Mayuge, the President, represented by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, noted that Busoga has become notably more peaceful since Gabula IV’s enthronement on September 13, 2014.

In his address, Museveni lauded the Kyabazinga for consistently championing peace, unity, and development initiatives within Busoga. He emphasized the crucial role that traditional institutions play in fostering social cohesion, moral renewal, and economic development, reiterating the government’s commitment to supporting them. The President recalled the NRM government’s decision to restore kingdoms and chiefdoms upon coming to power in 1986, enabling cultural expression and freedom.

Prime Minister Nabbanja conveyed the President’s directive for a Busoga development plan, focusing on wealth creation for residents. This plan, to be developed within three weeks by ministers from the region, aims to encourage diversification from sugarcane farming into profitable ventures like coffee, fish farming, and poultry, especially for those with limited land.

The Kyabazinga, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to President Museveni and the government for their support to the Busoga Kingdom. He underscored the importance of the large turnout at the anniversary as a symbol of the kingdom’s cherished unity. He also urged parents to prioritize their children’s education and equip them with skills for societal contribution, while advising his subjects to utilize the rainy season for food crop cultivation and tree planting to combat hunger and conserve the environment.

Busoga’s Prime Minister, Dr. Joseph Muvawala, also called for the expedited handover of kingdom properties still under government control.
