Museveni Advocates for Practical Skills at Ibanda Secondary School's 60th Anniversary

At the Diamond Jubilee celebration of Ibanda Secondary School, marking 60 years of educational service, President Yoweri Museveni highlighted the importance of equipping the nation’s youth with practical skills.

Representing the President, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa unveiled plans for a new Skilling Centre at the school. This initiative aims to provide students with vocational training, thereby enhancing their employment prospects, improving livelihoods, combating poverty, and fostering their integration into the formal economy.

In his address, President Museveni lauded the school’s enduring legacy and the collaborative efforts of its administration, faculty, founders, the Church, and the community. He specifically acknowledged the significant role of religious institutions in Uganda’s education sector, underscoring the vital partnership between the government and these bodies in advancing national development.

The President expressed satisfaction with the school’s achievements in discipline, academics, and sports. He noted that the establishment of the Skilling Centre signifies the school’s forward-thinking approach, preparing students not just for the present but for the future.

“This is the kind of investment we need to equip our young people with practical skills that can improve their livelihoods and contribute to our country’s economic transformation,” Museveni stated, reinforcing his call for skills-based education.

Furthermore, Museveni cautioned the residents of Ibanda against the dangers of identity-based politics. He warned that such divisions could fracture communities and weaken essential institutions, including the Church, which plays a crucial role in societal development.

The President’s message strongly advocated for a dual focus on skills development for economic empowerment and the preservation of social unity to support national progress.
