Twelve Teenagers Arrested Over Viral Assault Video in Kampala

Twelve teenagers have been apprehended by police in Kampala following the circulation of a video showing them assaulting another teenager. The disturbing footage, which quickly went viral on social media platforms, led to widespread public condemnation and calls for immediate action.

The suspects, aged between 14 and 17, are reportedly students and were taken into custody at Kabalagala Police Station. The arrests were made on September 17 and 18, 2026, with the final apprehensions occurring in the early hours of September 18, as part of an operation in the Makindye Division.

The assault itself took place on September 13, 2026, in the Nakibinge Zone, Kibuli Parish, within Kampala District. The victim was initially treated at a local hospital and has since been discharged. The teenager is currently recovering at their mother’s residence and receiving ongoing medical care.

Police spokesperson Ms. Rachael Kawala stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and the specific involvement of each arrested individual. The Uganda Police Force has unequivocally condemned the violence, especially when it involves minors, and has pledged to ensure that all perpetrators are dealt with according to the law, with particular consideration for juvenile justice procedures.

This incident underscores concerns about youth violence and the impact of social media in bringing such matters to light, prompting a firm response from law enforcement.
