Mubende High Court Schedules Hearings for Kassanda South, Busujju Election Petitions

The Mubende High Court has established specific dates for the examination of election petitions concerning the parliamentary seats for Kassanda South and Busujju constituencies. These legal challenges stem from the general election held earlier this year.

The petition for Kassanda South, filed by independent candidate Eria Mubiru against the National Resistance Movement’s Hajji Abdul Bisaso, is scheduled to be heard on October 7 and 8. Mubiru is also citing the Electoral Commission as a respondent in the case.

Justice Mary Babirye will preside over the Kassanda South petition. The court has indicated that the final ruling for this matter will be delivered virtually on October 24. The legal teams for both sides have been confirmed, with prominent lawyers representing the petitioners and respondents.

In the Busujju County case, Vincent Nyanzi of the NRM is contesting the victory of the incumbent Member of Parliament, David Lukyamuzi Kalwanga of the National Unity Platform. This petition also falls under the purview of Justice Babirye.

Parties in the Busujju case have agreed on a timeline for submissions and affidavits, aiming to expedite the proceedings. Lawyers for both Mr. Kalwanga and the Electoral Commission expressed confidence in their respective cases and the agreed-upon process.

Justice Babirye commended the legal representatives for their cooperation in reaching an agreement, emphasizing that such collaboration aids in efficient case management and reduces the court’s workload. Mubende High Court is handling a total of three election petitions from the recent general election, including one for Buweekula South.
