Masaka Residents Rally Behind Gen. Muhoozi's 2031 Presidential Ambitions

In a significant show of support, hundreds of residents in Masaka City have publicly endorsed the presidential ambitions of Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for the 2031 general elections. The endorsement took place during a mobilization meeting organized by the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) at Brovad Hotel.

Daudi Kabanda, the Executive Secretary in the Office of the National Chairman of PLU, led the proceedings, stating that the large turnout in Masaka demonstrates grassroots enthusiasm for Gen. Muhoozi and dispels speculation about his political future. This event is part of the PLU’s nationwide campaign to gather support and signatures for Gen. Muhoozi’s potential candidacy, a drive that commenced earlier this month.

During the meeting, local leaders took the platform to express grievances regarding the alleged harassment and arrest of residents and political figures by security agencies. Masaka City NRM Chairperson, Rogers Bulegeya, specifically requested Kabanda to convey these concerns to Gen. Muhoozi. Bulegeya cited instances of arrests without clear explanations, suggesting potential interference from unnamed individuals.

Several other local figures, including former parliamentary and district woman MP candidates, voiced their support for the PLU’s mobilization efforts. They emphasized the importance of listening to the voices of ordinary citizens and ensuring their participation in political processes. The sentiment from speakers like Hajjat Sarah Kiyimba (Hajjat Brovad) highlighted the need for leaders to address issues affecting families, women, and the youth.

Brigadier General Pande Jackson Kajoba, Commander of the Kasijjagirwa Military Training Camp, also spoke, calling for the preservation of peace and stability in Uganda, urging that political differences should not lead to division or violence.

Kabanda assured the Masaka residents that their concerns about security agency actions would be communicated directly to General Muhoozi and the PLU leadership for investigation and potential intervention.

This Masaka gathering is one of several similar events held across the country as the PLU actively mobilizes support for Gen. Muhoozi’s 2031 presidential aspirations. Earlier in the month, five Members of Parliament from the Ankole sub-region also declared their backing for his bid.
