UMSC's Karamoja Relief Appeal Garners Significant Food Donations

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) is receiving a positive response to its emergency relief appeal aimed at alleviating the suffering of thousands of families in the Karamoja region. Prolonged drought has led to severe food shortages, prompting the UMSC to launch a nationwide call for assistance.

Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, initiated the appeal to rally support for the northeastern communities facing dire circumstances. Donations have been pouring in, with the Second Deputy Mufti, Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Bukenya, accepting the contributions on behalf of the Mufti.

Notable donors include Ugandan filmmaker and actress Mariam Ndagire, who has contributed to the cause. Additionally, Canadian Muslim Muamer Dajdic, inspired by UMSC’s Secretary for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Imran Abdunoor Ssali, donated 70 packages of maize flour.

The Uganda Forex Bureau and Money Remittance Association has also stepped forward, presenting a substantial consignment. Led by their chairman, Haj Masoud Obeid, the association provided 200 packages of maize flour, 100 packages of sugar, 100 packages of cooking oil, 100 packages of salt, and 100 bags of beans.

Sheikh Bukenya expressed profound gratitude to all donors, commending their generosity as a testament to human brotherhood and solidarity with those in need. He encouraged further contributions to support families grappling with the food crisis in Karamoja.

The UMSC has affirmed its commitment to continue mobilizing aid for the region, addressing the ongoing food insecurity exacerbated by the persistent drought.
