PLU assigns 'Patriotic Officer' numbers to prominent Ugandans

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) is expanding its network by assigning “Patriotic Officer” (PO) numbers to influential Ugandans. Notable recent additions include businessman Sudhir Ruparelia (PO/198), city tycoon Godfrey Kirumira (PO/199), and former Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya (PO/300).

These assignments are part of a larger initiative to register 300 prominent individuals, encompassing politicians, government officials, professionals, and Members of Parliament. The PLU, chaired by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba (who holds PO/001), personally approves and distributes these numbers.

The PLU leadership explains that this numbering system is inspired by the operational codes used during the National Resistance Army’s bush war from 1981 to 1986, aiming to signify seniority, loyalty, and commitment to mobilization efforts. The organization views these numbers as a way to formally document an individual’s role within their movement.

PLU Secretary General Fadil Twalla emphasized the importance of formal membership for participation in PLU activities. He urged citizens and public figures to join the organization, drawing a parallel between past revolutionary participation and contributing to a peaceful transition of power.

Twalla also called for public support and participation in upcoming events, specifically mentioning the endorsement of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba as a presidential candidate. The inclusion of high-profile business leaders like Ruparelia and Kirumira highlights the PLU’s strategy to engage key private sector figures in their preparations for the 2031 elections.
