Members of Parliament on the opposition side, including the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Joel Ssenyonyi, were once again denied access to the Lubowa International Specialised Hospital construction site. The MPs had intended to conduct an oversight visit to assess the progress of the long-delayed 264-bed facility.

Sources indicate that the team arrived at the site yesterday, only to find the main gates locked. This marks the second time such a visit has been obstructed, raising further questions about the project’s transparency and timeline. The MPs reportedly had informed the project contractor of their intention to visit on September 9th.

The hospital, planned as a specialized referral, teaching, and research center, has faced numerous delays since its inception. The parliamentary committee’s attempt to physically inspect the ongoing works is part of their mandate to ensure public funds and projects are progressing as intended.

Despite previous assurances and a supposed clearance from the Ministry of Health for the visit, the locked gates presented an immediate barrier to the MPs’ efforts. The incident is likely to fuel further scrutiny and debate regarding the management and execution of the Lubowa hospital project.

The opposition MPs’ spokesperson stated that they were keen to understand the current status of construction and address any potential challenges hindering its completion. The repeated denial of access raises concerns about accountability and the timely delivery of this significant healthcare infrastructure.
