NFSU Uganda Campus Launches Cyber Run to Combat Online Fraud

The National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) Uganda Campus is set to host its inaugural Cyber Run, a 5-kilometer event aimed at educating the public about the growing dangers of online fraud, identity theft, and cyberbullying. Scheduled for October 17, 2026, in Jinja District, the run intends to foster greater vigilance among citizens as digital platform usage continues to rise.

Participants will not only engage in a physical activity but also gain practical knowledge on safeguarding their digital devices, personal information, and financial assets from cyber threats. NFSU Uganda Campus Director, Air Commodore K.R. Thaakar, emphasized the critical role of public awareness in mitigating cybercrime, aligning with the university’s focus on digital forensics and cybersecurity.

“We have decided to have a Cyber Run basically to spread awareness among our people, to be vigilant and more aware of the shortcomings of cybersecurity so that people are safe and their money and assets remain safe in the face of increased cyber insecurity,” stated Thaakar. The initiative seeks to empower individuals to navigate the digital landscape more securely.

Supporting the event, the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), through its subsidiary NEC Uzima Limited, has donated 400 cartons of drinking water for participants. NEC Uzima’s Head of Sales and Marketing, Richard Kanyomozi, expressed the company’s commitment to collaborating with NFSU on future initiatives.

This Cyber Run addresses the increasing risks individuals and organizations face as they become more reliant on digital services. The event promises to equip attendees with essential skills to protect themselves from online threats.
