KCCA Secures First League Win Against Kataka

KCCA FC has finally broken their winless streak in the Startimes Uganda Premier League, clinching a crucial 1-0 victory against newcomers Kataka FC. The win, secured at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, marks a significant, albeit hard-fought, start to their campaign after a slow beginning.

The match presented KCCA with the kind of physical challenge they needed to overcome, facing opponents who, while strong, lacked the cutting edge to exploit KCCA’s initial nervousness. This allowed the Lugogo-based side to finally find their scoring touch and secure three points.

The all-important goal came in the 58th minute when Emmanuel Anyama found the back of the net. He expertly tapped in a low cross delivered by the energetic Sammy Ssebaduka from the right flank. This strike was enough to give KCCA the lead and ultimately the win.

KCCA’s head coach, Brian Ssenyondo, acknowledged the importance of the victory, stating, “I don’t believe it is a relief but it was probably long overdue that we won a game and scored a goal. Of course, we know that when we score first, we are a hard team to beat; we always have the three points.” He added that the win was vital for his players’ confidence.

Ssenyondo had made significant team changes, including introducing Ibrahim Kasule for his debut. However, it was Ssebaduka, retained from the previous fixture, who consistently threatened the opposition with his runs down the right wing, even setting up Kasule for an opportunity that hit the crossbar.

Despite creating several chances, KCCA could have added to their tally, with Ali Ssentamu missing two notable opportunities. However, Anyama’s goal proved to be the difference, ensuring KCCA held on for a nervous but vital victory.
