Buganda's Health Initiative Offers Thousands Free Medical Services in Kayunga

Thousands of residents in Kayunga District and surrounding areas are receiving vital medical and surgical attention at the ongoing “Tubeere Balamu” Health Camp. Held at the Kangulumira Sub-county headquarters, the week-long event, which runs from September 12th to 19th, is a significant effort to extend healthcare to communities that often face barriers to access.

The initiative, led by the Kabaka Foundation with support from the Association of Surgeons of Uganda and I&M Bank Uganda, is bringing a range of essential services directly to the people. These include surgical procedures, medical consultations, health screenings, vaccinations, and crucial preventive health education.

Omulangira Khalifan Kakungulu highlighted the importance of this outreach, stressing the need for regular medical check-ups and early detection of diseases, particularly cancer. “Diseases such as cancer are becoming an increasing concern, particularly among older people, making early detection and preventive care more important than ever,” he stated.

Buganda Kingdom’s Minister of Health, Cotilda Nakate Kikomeko, praised the partners involved, emphasizing the Kingdom’s dedication to improving public health awareness and empowering communities. She also encouraged residents to join the “Tubeere Balamu” health insurance scheme and continue supporting such health camps.

I&M Bank Uganda, a consistent supporter of Buganda Kingdom’s initiatives, reiterated its commitment to social impact and community well-being. Annette Nakiyaga, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at I&M Bank, remarked, “Access to healthcare is fundamental to building resilient and productive communities.”

The “Tubeere Balamu” program, launched in 2024, has already facilitated over 1,000 surgeries and aims for 3,600 by the end of the current outreach, demonstrating a strong commitment to improving health standards across the Kingdom.
