Buganda Loyalists Raise Over Shs90 Million for Ssese Health Initiatives

Buganda Kingdom subjects from three key counties, alongside members of the Rotary Club of Kampala Ssese Islands, have successfully raised Shs90.3 million designated for improving health initiatives within the Ssese Islands.

The significant contribution was officially handed over by Robert Sserwanga Ssaalongo, the Minister for Youth, Sports, and Talent, who represented the Katikkiro of Buganda at the event.

During the handover, Sserwanga emphasized the importance of proactive health measures. He urged the public to prioritize disease prevention, undergo regular health check-ups, and seek prompt medical attention. These practices are seen as crucial, especially as the Ssese Islands prepare to welcome a mobile, water-based hospital.

“We encourage everyone to take responsibility for their health. Regular medical check-ups and seeking treatment early are very important because when diseases are detected at an early stage, the chances of recovery increase,” Sserwanga stated, highlighting the Buganda Kingdom’s ongoing commitment to public wellbeing through the Kabaka Foundation.

The event also saw a call for economic diversification from Augustine Kasirye, the Kabaka’s Chief for Ssese County. He encouraged residents to look beyond fishing as their sole livelihood and embrace agriculture as a supplementary economic activity. This diversification, Kasirye noted, would help strengthen household incomes and improve overall economic security for families in the region.

The total sum of Shs90,321,250 was raised through contributions from various sub-regions within Buddu, Kyaggwe, and Ssese counties.
