Adjumani West By-election Underway for MP Seat Vacated by Late Gen. Moses Ali

Voting is currently in progress across Adjumani West Constituency for a crucial parliamentary by-election. Over 51,000 registered voters are heading to 114 polling stations spread throughout Adjumani Town Council and its sub-counties of Pachara, Adropi, Ciforo, and Ukusijoni.

The election aims to elect a successor to the late Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, who previously held the Member of Parliament position. The main contenders vying for this seat are independent candidate Gasper Draga and James Leku Pilli, who is representing the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

The Electoral Commission has confirmed that all necessary polling materials were distributed on time and the process is proceeding as planned. Paul Bukenya, Deputy PRO for the Electoral Commission, urged voters to participate peacefully and adhere to established procedures.

While voting is generally smooth, some polling stations in Adjumani Town Council reported lower-than-expected turnout by midday. For instance, Town Hall Polling Station I-Z had only seen 64 voters cast their ballots out of 567 registered by noon. Polling is scheduled to continue until 4 PM, after which vote counting and tallying will commence.

Notably, two candidates, Ben Anyama and Patrick Tandrupasi, had withdrawn their nominations prior to the election and their names do not appear on the ballot. The Adjumani District Council Hall has been designated as both the complaints desk during polling hours and the central tally centre for the by-election results.
