UPDF and SANDF to Enhance Intelligence Sharing for African Security

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) have committed to a deeper collaboration in defense intelligence. The move is designed to improve the sharing of crucial information and establish robust early warning mechanisms to address the evolving security landscape on the African continent.

This strengthened partnership was solidified during a two-day Defence Intelligence Bilateral Engagement held at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs headquarters in Mbuya. The meeting brought together senior intelligence officers from both nations to discuss the continent’s security situation and identify emerging threats.

Lieutenant General Samuel Okiding, Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, emphasized the critical need for African nations to unite in tackling shared security challenges. “Our strength as a continent is to come together, the way we are doing now,” he stated, highlighting the importance of such collaborative efforts.

Brigadier General Michael Kibuye, Director of Civil-Military Cooperation, noted that Uganda and South Africa have a long-standing history of defense ties, encompassing training, technology, and intelligence. He stressed that this cooperation must translate into tangible actions, particularly through timely information exchange and strategic dialogue.

Captain N.T. Mokoe of the SANDF expressed his gratitude for a professional and productive engagement. The ongoing collaboration signifies a commitment to proactive defense strategies between the two countries, building upon existing partnerships in military training and technological advancements.

This initiative underscores the dedication of both UPDF and SANDF to fostering a more secure Africa through joint intelligence efforts.
