Many Ugandans are struggling with sleep quality due to modern lifestyle demands, leading doctors to emphasize the importance of resetting the body’s internal clock. Inconsistent bedtimes, extended sleep on weekends, and late-night exposure to bright screens from devices like phones and computers are identified as key disruptors of the circadian rhythm.

This natural 24-hour cycle governs our sleep-wake patterns, and its disruption can have significant consequences. Medical professionals warn that this imbalance can compromise not only physical health but also mental focus and overall emotional well-being. The effects of poor sleep can range from reduced productivity to increased susceptibility to illness.

To improve sleep hygiene, experts recommend establishing regular sleep and wake times, even on weekends, to reinforce the body’s natural rhythm. Minimizing exposure to blue light emitted by electronic devices in the hours before bed is also crucial. Creating a calming bedtime routine can further signal to the body that it’s time to wind down and prepare for rest. Addressing these factors can lead to more restful sleep and improved daily functioning.
