The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has announced a significant milestone in its tax administration efforts, with 1,680 manufacturers and importers now registered and actively using the Digital Tax Stamps (DTS) system. This initiative, aimed at curbing tax evasion and boosting revenue collection, has been met with considerable uptake since its implementation.

The DTS system plays a crucial role in verifying the authenticity of excisable products, thereby preventing the circulation of counterfeit goods and ensuring that legitimate businesses contribute their fair share of taxes. The URA has indicated that the system has been instrumental in bringing previously informal or non-compliant businesses into the formal tax net.

Officials from the URA have expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting that the digital stamps provide an efficient mechanism for tracking goods and managing tax obligations. The system is designed to be user-friendly for compliant taxpayers while simultaneously serving as a robust tool against those attempting to circumvent tax laws. This increased compliance is expected to bolster government revenue, which can then be channeled into public services and infrastructure development.

The ongoing adoption of digital stamps signals a growing confidence in the URA’s technological advancements and a commitment from the business community towards responsible tax practices. The authority continues to encourage broader participation and offers support to businesses navigating the integration of the DTS system into their operations.
