Uganda is making a significant effort to attract Swiss tourists, partnering with Private Safaris, a seasoned specialist in African travel. This collaboration has seen striking adverts showcasing Uganda’s diverse wildlife and breathtaking landscapes appearing on trams throughout Zurich, the country’s largest city.

Complementing the tram campaign, a promotional video highlighting Uganda’s attractions has been broadcast on screens at Zurich’s main railway station since the beginning of September, playing every 20 to 30 minutes. The embassy selected Zurich for this high-visibility promotion due to its concentration of affluent residents, recognizing the Swiss as avid international travelers with considerable spending power.

Private Safaris, which has been operating since 1971 and has won numerous awards for its African tours, already offers gorilla trekking as part of its packages. The embassy believes these combined advertising efforts represent Uganda’s first sustained, high-impact promotional campaign in Zurich, aiming to reach residents, commuters, and international visitors alike.

Ambassador Marcel Tibaleka expressed optimism about the initiative, stating the goal is to “bring Uganda to Switzerland” and encourage more Swiss citizens to experience the country’s famed natural beauty, often referred to as the “Pearl of Africa.” This campaign follows similar successful public transport advertising initiatives by Ugandan embassies in Paris and Copenhagen earlier this year. Uganda also recently participated in the FESPO travel fair in Zurich, with the embassy sponsoring a national pavilion.

The embassy plans to continue forging partnerships in Switzerland to further enhance visitor numbers, increase tourist spending, and extend the duration of stays for those visiting Uganda. The campaign aims to translate increased visibility into tangible growth in Swiss tourism.
