Two Men Receive Lengthy Prison Sentences for Defilement in Kabale

Kabale High Court has delivered stern judgments in two separate aggravated defilement cases, sentencing two young men to lengthy prison terms. The court emphasized the severity of crimes against children, handing down sentences that reflect the gravity of the offenses.

In the first case, Dickson Kamuhanda Midego, 26, was sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated defilement and child trafficking. The court heard that in October 2021, Kamuhanda, a boda boda rider, offered a ride to a 14-year-old girl who was on an errand. Instead of taking her to her destination, he led her to an isolated spot and sexually assaulted her. Kamuhanda had already spent over four years in remand, and his sentence will account for this time, meaning he will serve approximately nine years.

In a second, particularly disturbing case, Elias Bikorowomuhangi, 21, received a 20-year prison sentence for the aggravated defilement of his two-year-old niece. The offense occurred in March 2023 at the child’s grandmother’s home. Bikorowomuhangi lured the toddler into a room and committed the act. Following medical examinations that confirmed the assault on a child under 14, he was arrested. Despite initially denying the offense, he later admitted guilt. The court factored in his time on remand, ordering him to serve 16 years.

These sentences highlight the judiciary’s commitment to protecting minors and prosecuting those who commit such heinous crimes. The court’s decisions underscore the severe consequences for individuals found guilty of defilement.
