Taibah School Eyes Dominance at Independence Sports Tournament

Taibah School is expressing strong optimism and determination as they prepare to host the upcoming Independence Sports Tournament, scheduled to kick off this Saturday and run until October 3rd. The school, which previously held multiple titles, is focused on regaining its top position across various disciplines.
Last year, Taibah’s netball team secured their only trophy, a hard-fought 11-7 victory against Trinity Senior Academy. However, they entered the tournament as defending champions in Under 15 and Under 20 football, as well as girls’ basketball, titles they aim to win back this year. Netballer Wilma Asiimwe, who has participated in all five editions, stated that the team is ready to defend their netball crown and achieve more.
This renewed ambition is backed by enhanced preparation. Netballer Hannah Siduda highlighted that training now occurs daily, a significant increase from previous schedules. The school has also increased its coaching staff from two to three, ensuring more dedicated guidance for the athletes. Basketballer Escriva Musha echoed this sentiment, vowing not just to reach finals but to emerge victorious.
Taibah has also introduced new sporting categories, including athletics with 100m, 400m, and relay races, promising exciting competitions. While mixed volleyball has been separated into distinct boys’ and girls’ categories, the core ethos of the tournament remains focused on skill development and fostering inter-school relationships. Students from Taibah and visiting schools are encouraged to share sporting knowledge and experiences, creating a positive impact beyond just the competitive results.
Principal Oskar Semweya-Musoke emphasized the importance of mixing students from Taibah with those from less privileged backgrounds, highlighting the tournament’s broader social significance.
Disciplines contested include Football (U15, U20, Girls), Volleyball (Boys, Girls), Netball, Basketball (U15, U20, Girls), and Athletics.
