Museveni Highlights Development Gains in Adjumani West Campaign

President Yoweri Museveni has made a strong case for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Adjumani West, pointing to significant infrastructural advancements and the return of peace to the West Nile region.

During a campaign rally for NRM candidate James Leku Pili, Mr. Museveni highlighted the government’s investments in key sectors. He specifically mentioned the tarmacking of the Atiak-Laropi road and ongoing projects connecting Moyo, Yumbe, and Koboko, including the significant Koboko-Moyo and Yumbe-Manibe roads. Further plans include upgrading the Nebbi-Goli road and tarmacking the Arua-Kulikulinga-Obongi stretch.

The President also addressed the extension of electricity to Adjumani, Moyo, and other parts of West Nile, attributing intermittent supply issues to aging infrastructure and assuring that upgrades are in progress. He urged residents to view these developments as indicators of progress but stressed the importance of individual household wealth creation, noting that physical infrastructure alone does not guarantee improved incomes.

The rally, held at Paridi Stadium ahead of a by-election to replace the late Gen (Rtd) Moses Ali, also saw NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong calling for party unity. Residents presented a memorandum requesting further infrastructure projects, including the crucial Laropi Bridge and the renovation of Adjumani General Hospital.

Earlier, President Museveni paid respects at Takwa Mosque, laying a wreath on Gen. Moses Ali’s grave and remembering him as a guiding leader for West Nile. The event also coincided with the President’s 82nd birthday.
