Mityana Municipality is embarking on a new chapter of urban cleanliness with Mityana Agrovet Company stepping in to manage waste collection and town cleaning. This transition follows the conclusion of a contract with the previous service provider, Homkline, which faced criticism from residents.
The new agreement sees Mityana Agrovet Company tasked with ensuring sanitation across Central and Ttamu Divisions. Municipal authorities are hopeful this change will address existing concerns and elevate the town’s hygiene standards.
Local leaders, including the Mayor of Central Division, John Kasozi, have actively involved the community in this transition. Kasozi urged residents to be vigilant observers of the new company’s performance, emphasizing the importance of reporting any sanitation lapses or service gaps.
“We ask the people of Mityana to follow up on the work being done and raise concerns whenever they notice gaps,” Kasozi stated. He added that the municipality expects Mityana Agrovet Company to learn from the challenges encountered by its predecessor and avoid similar pitfalls.
Godfrey Ssemwezi, a spokesperson for Mityana Agrovet Company, appealed for public cooperation as the company begins its operations. He assured residents that their feedback would be valued and that the company is committed to comprehensive service coverage throughout Mityana.
“Our offices will remain open to listen to their concerns, and we are committed to reaching every area where our services are required,” Ssemwezi remarked.
Residents, represented by community leaders, have already begun voicing their priorities and past grievances to ensure the new contract delivers tangible improvements in the town’s sanitation. The success of this new arrangement is seen to depend on close collaboration between municipal authorities, the new service provider, and the active participation of the community.
