Makerere University is set to reinstate supplementary examinations for eligible final-year students who have outstanding retakes. This move is intended to facilitate their timely graduation.
The decision to reintroduce the supplementary exam system, which was previously abolished in 2001 during the university’s transition from a term to a semester system, has been approved by the University Council.
Vice Chancellor Professor Barnabas Nawangwe confirmed the development in a recent interview, stating that a formal policy outlining eligibility criteria and operational procedures has been established. He also indicated that some students have already taken advantage of this reintroduction.
This re-establishment of supplementary exams aims to provide a crucial opportunity for students to clear pending papers, thereby preventing unnecessary delays in their academic progression and subsequent entry into the professional world.
