General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, has formally demanded an apology from Junior Local Government Minister Justine Nameere. This ultimatum was communicated via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday morning, setting a strict seven-day deadline for compliance.
According to Muhoozi’s post, the deadline for Nameere’s apology is September 23rd. He warned that failure to meet this demand would result in “serious consequences,” stating, “If she doesn’t, nothing will save her.”
This recent demand comes shortly after Muhoozi publicly stated on Tuesday that Nameere could be removed from the Cabinet if her conduct was deemed inappropriate. “If Nameere is misbehaving, it’s a very simple problem. We shall remove her from the Cabinet. That’s a very simple thing,” he had written.
The apparent rift seems to stem from a video circulating online, initially interpreted as Minister Nameere cautioning Muhoozi against interfering with NRM legislators. However, reports suggest a more extended version of the video indicates she was addressing Daudi Kabanda, the Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda, instead.
This is not the first time Minister Nameere has faced public scrutiny regarding viral content. She previously refuted allegations of organizing a celebration for former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, asserting that a clip linked to this claim was an edited version of an older recording.
As of Wednesday morning, Minister Nameere had not issued a public response to General Muhoozi’s ultimatum.
