Cricket Cranes bounce back with dominant win over Sierra Leone

The Uganda Cricket Cranes demonstrated a powerful response to their recent loss by decisively defeating Sierra Leone by eight wickets. This victory at the Gahanga Main Oval revitalizes their push for the ILT20 Continent Cup title.

Uganda’s bowlers set the tone early, restricting Sierra Leone to a mere 55 runs in 17.4 overs. Gerald Olipa was the standout performer with the ball, taking an exceptional three wickets for just one run, including a maiden over. He was ably supported by Joseph Baguma and Enock Kasaija, who each took two wickets, contributing to the opposition’s collapse.

Chasing a modest target of 56, the Cricket Cranes experienced a brief hiccup with an early wicket. However, Robinson Obuya provided stability with an unbeaten 20, while Fahad Mutagana added 10. The real acceleration came from Gerald Olipa, who smashed an unbeaten 21 off just nine balls, including three fours and a six, at a blistering strike rate. His aggressive innings ensured Uganda reached the target in only seven overs, finishing at 56 for two.

This dominant performance is crucial for Uganda, who now sit second in the standings with eight points from five matches, trailing unbeaten Kenya. The win was a much-needed confidence boost after their defeat to Kenya in the ‘Migingo Derby’. The team’s strong showing highlights their depth and growing maturity as they prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier.
