Uganda is set to host its 7th Annual Economic Forum from September 29th to October 2nd. This year’s theme, “Putting Money in People’s Pockets,” signals a critical shift from celebrating headline GDP figures to a more grounded assessment of whether economic growth is truly benefiting the average citizen.

The exclusive, invitation-only event will gather key figures from government, the private sector, and innovation hubs. While access is limited, the public can follow the proceedings live on NBS TV and MTN TV by AfroMobile.

The forum’s core question challenges the traditional narrative of economic progress: Does Uganda’s reported growth translate into increased income for market vendors, farmers, and small business owners, or does it remain confined to national statistics?

Discussions are slated to explore several crucial areas. These include enhancing value addition in agriculture to ensure farmers receive better returns, improving access to affordable credit for small and medium-sized enterprises, and fostering job creation through emerging sectors like oil, tourism, and the digital economy. A significant focus will also be placed on providing greater support and inclusion for informal workers, who represent a substantial portion of Uganda’s workforce but are frequently excluded from formal economic planning.

Ultimately, the forum is framed not as a mere conference, but as an “accountability check.” It emphasizes that true economic advancement should be measured by its impact on individuals’ financial well-being, not just by macroeconomic indicators. The straightforward question posed to all participants and viewers is whether the discussed strategies will lead to meaningful improvements in people’s lives.
