The Tooro Kingdom is moving forward with the enthronement of its new monarch, Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, set to be crowned King Nyabongo I on September 29, 2026. The decision was announced by Charles Kamurasi, the chief of the ruling Babiito royal clan, at Karuziika Palace, signaling a significant step in the kingdom’s succession process.
Preparations for the coronation ceremony are slated to begin immediately, with various committees being formed to oversee the event. This announcement comes after the recent burial of the late King Oyo, who reigned for over three decades before his passing last month. The family of the former king, who had previously raised concerns about the succession, has remained notably quiet.
Kamurasi addressed reports of a legal opinion presented to President Museveni regarding the succession. He clarified that the Babiito royal clan has not received any official communication that would legally impede the coronation proceedings. The clan maintains that the process is proceeding as planned, and they are proceeding with the scheduled events.
The coronation will formally usher in a new era for Tooro Kingdom, with Crown Prince Kijanangoma set to assume the throne. The kingdom is now focused on organizing a successful ceremony to mark the beginning of his reign.
