Tayebwa Urges Parents to Prioritize Education Over Marriage Expenses

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa is advocating for a shift in parental priorities, urging families to invest in their children’s education and skills rather than incurring significant expenses for marriage arrangements.

Tayebwa highlighted that in today’s world, education and acquired skills are crucial determinants of an individual’s opportunities and their capacity to contribute positively to society. He believes this makes education a more valuable investment than the immediate costs associated with traditional marriage ceremonies.

Speaking at Kigarama Archdeaconry in Ruhinda North Constituency, alongside former Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Luke Orombi, Tayebwa encouraged parents to reconsider the practice of depleting limited resources for marriage while neglecting educational pursuits.

He acknowledged that the full impact of education might not be apparent immediately, often taking five to ten years to materialize. However, he firmly stated that education remains one of the most profound and beneficial investments for individuals, families, and communities alike.

Tayebwa further elaborated that Uganda’s evolving socio-economic landscape necessitates that young people gain knowledge and practical skills. These are essential for enhancing their future prospects and enabling them to actively participate in national development.

His sentiments were echoed by Archbishop Orombi, who also underscored the critical importance of educating children during his visit. The leaders also joined the congregation in celebrating President Yoweri Museveni’s 82nd birthday, offering prayers for his well-being and continued leadership.
