Scrap Buyers Dominate as Nile Special Pool League Returns

The Nile Special National Pool League is back in action after a year-long break, with Scrap Buyers making an immediate statement of intent. The 2013 and 2016 champions secured victories in all three of their opening day fixtures, defeating Wakiso City, Tororo Tigers, and Club 408. Their dominant performance places them as early frontrunners in the league’s new format.

Despite the absence of key player Habib Ssebuguzi, Scrap Buyers showcased their depth, with Glorious Ssenyonjo, Farouk Mutumba, Ibrahim Kayanja, and Mustapha Bwire leading the charge. Youngster Yahaya Mpindi also impressed, contributing to the team’s perfect start.

In a thrilling encounter, defending champions Roxberry faced a stern challenge from last year’s runners-up, Upper Volta. Roxberry found themselves trailing 7-3 at one point but mounted a significant comeback, winning seven consecutive frames to take the lead. However, Upper Volta rallied in the closing stages, forcing a 10-10 draw. Roxberry’s Ian Kazibwe and Simon Lubuulwa were instrumental in their fightback, securing three wins each.

Greater Mukono also survived an opening scare against Pot It, eventually winning the match via a penalty shootout after a draw. New rules in the league mandate a winner for each match, utilizing penalties to award a bonus point. Mukono went on to secure further wins against E-Play and Sinkers.

Other notable results included Capital Night’s dominant 11-0 victory over Nakawa and Roxberry’s largest winning margin of 17-3 against Mbale. The league continues this weekend with 16 teams competing in a round-robin format across four groups.
