PLU Urges Ugandans to Participate in "Peaceful Transition of Power" for Gen. Muhoozi

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) is rallying Ugandans to engage in what it terms a “peaceful transition of power,” drawing parallels between its current campaign for General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s potential 2031 presidential bid and the historical armed struggle that brought the NRM to power.

PLU Secretary General Twala Fadil emphasized the importance of public involvement, suggesting that those who couldn’t participate in the 1986 bush war now have an opportunity to contribute to a peaceful political shift. “If you were not able to participate in the revolution of 1986, where people went to the bush and installed peace, now why don’t you participate in the peaceful transition of power?” Fadil stated.

The organization is urging citizens to attend a ‘Baraza’ scheduled for October 17th in Ntungamo, where Gen. Muhoozi will officially be endorsed as their preferred candidate for the 2031 elections. “I call upon each and everyone, each and every member of the public, our supporters across the country to come and join us on the 17th as we endorse our President, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as the next President,” Fadil urged.

PLU leaders are leveraging the history of the 1981-1986 bush war, led by the NRA against President Milton Obote’s government, to position Gen. Muhoozi’s campaign as a non-violent alternative to past conflicts. This mobilization effort is being extended to western Uganda, with plans to integrate political engagement with community services.

The upcoming Baraza will feature a medical camp and offer free legal services, demonstrating PLU’s commitment to addressing public needs while advancing its political agenda. “We move with a very big team. We move with a team of medical that always interact with our patients in the population. And we also have a team of the legal that has volunteered in PLU,” Fadil explained.

PLU sees itself as closely aligned with the ruling NRM, referring to their relationship as a “Tukopamoja Arrangement” and an “one political family.” This partnership aims to strengthen the organization’s political reach and support for Gen. Muhoozi’s long-term aspirations.
