Gomba Dominates Buddu in Masaza Cup Quarter-Final First Leg

Gomba FC delivered a stunning performance on Sunday, defeating Buddu FC 3-0 in the first leg of their Airtel Masaza Cup quarter-final clash at Kabulassoke PTC grounds. The victory puts the Lions of Gomba in a commanding position heading into the return leg, while the three-time champions Buddu face a significant challenge to salvage their campaign.

Goals from Muhammad Kasule in the 17th minute, Alfred Ssebunya in the 33rd, and Hassan Waiswa after the break sealed Gomba’s dominant win. The match, anticipated as a heavyweight contest, quickly turned into a showcase of Gomba’s superior intensity and purpose.

Gomba’s coach, Felix Ssekabuuza, who guided Buweekula to their first Masaza Cup title last year, is now on track to potentially become the first coach to win successive titles with different counties. His counterpart, Buddu’s coach Eric Kisuze, faces the daunting task of overcoming a three-goal deficit in the second leg.

In other quarter-final ties, Kyaggwe secured a valuable 2-1 lead against Mawogola, with goals from Lauben Lubwama and David Mugalu. Mawogola managed a consolation goal through Asuman Ssenono, giving them a glimmer of hope for the return leg. Meanwhile, Busujju holds a narrow 1-0 advantage over Butambala, thanks to a single strike from Michael Abura. The match between Bugerere and Kyaddondo ended in a goalless draw, leaving their tie wide open.

The return legs are scheduled for Sunday, where Buddu, Mawogola, and Butambala will need to mount significant comebacks to remain in contention for the Masaza Cup.
