Residents of three villages in Buikwe District, specifically in Lugala and the Muiyibwe area, are living under the shadow of potential eviction. This precarious situation stems from a long-standing land dispute involving two entities claiming ownership: the beneficiaries of Kiziba Estates Ltd and officials from Sir Henry Morgan & Associates Ltd.
The matter has been under consideration by the Lugazi High Court since 2023, but the legal proceedings have not deterred alleged actions on the ground. Many of the affected individuals are Bibanja tenants, who hold rights to occupy and cultivate the land.
According to reports from the residents, their lives have been significantly disrupted. They claim that their gardens have been destroyed, and some individuals have allegedly faced physical assault. These actions are reportedly being carried out by representatives of Sir Henry Morgan & Associates Ltd as they attempt to assert control over the property.
The uncertainty and fear have created a tense atmosphere in the affected villages, as the community awaits a resolution from the court while contending with these alleged aggressive tactics. The future of these over 2,000 residents remains uncertain as the land dispute continues.
