Besigye Treason Witness Grilled Over Nairobi Apartment Stay

Andrew Wilson, a British-American witness for the prosecution in the treason trial involving Kizza Besigye and Obeid Lutale, has been questioned about his actions in Nairobi.

During cross-examination by Obeid Lutale’s legal team, led by Faruk Kizito Kamulegeya, Wilson revealed he slept in the same Nairobi apartment from which others had reportedly been arrested.

This detail is significant as Wilson had previously testified that he left the apartment to avoid arrest, but had not elaborated on how he later returned to spend the night there.

Wilson asserted he had no prior contact with the arresting party but acknowledged that alleged recording devices taken from the apartment were returned to him by Kenyan police personnel.

Lutale’s defence sought to understand Wilson’s role in the arrests, to which he maintained he had no involvement.

Wilson previously stated he traveled from Uganda to Kenya for a meeting, specifying he went by road and was handed over to another team at an unspecified border crossing.

Throughout his testimony, Wilson has repeatedly described details of his movements and the operation as “classified,” citing intelligence privilege as a reason for not disclosing further information.

The prosecution is scheduled to re-examine Wilson on Thursday, September 17.
