Commuters and businesses in Adjumani and nearby districts faced significant disruptions on Monday as Zawadi Bus Services announced the immediate suspension of its operations. The company, a long-standing transport provider connecting Adjumani with Kampala and Arua City for over 17 years, has parked all its buses.
This drastic measure comes after Stanbic Bank issued a directive for the company to cease operations. The bank’s action is reportedly linked to an outstanding loan amounting to Shs1.7 billion. The sudden halt has left numerous employees without work and passengers stranded at various stages of their journeys.
Zawadi Bus Services Managing Director, Simon Amajuru, confirmed the suspension through a press statement, indicating the company’s compliance with the bank’s directive. The cessation of services impacts not only passenger movement but also the crucial cargo transport that serves the region’s economic needs.
