Uganda Police Force Mourns ASP Henrietta Namande, a Dedicated PR Officer

The Uganda Police Force is in mourning following the untimely death of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Henrietta Namande. ASP Namande, who served diligently in the force’s Public Relations Office for many years, passed away on Saturday due to complications related to her pregnancy.
During a requiem Mass held in Wakiso District, Deputy Director for Interpol, Fred Enanga, shared poignant memories of his time working with Namande. Enanga, who served as the force’s spokesperson for eight years, described her as the “engine” of the department. He recounted how Namande made his transition into public relations smoother, despite his initial lack of a journalism background, when they first worked together in 2007.
Their professional paths crossed again in 2014 when Enanga was appointed as the Police spokesperson. He praised Namande’s “quiet strength and unwavering support,” highlighting her role in guiding the young team and fostering professionalism within the department. Enanga emphasized her humility, discipline, dedication, and honesty, stating that her character spoke volumes beyond her rank.
ASP Namande was credited with strengthening the bond between the police, the media, and the public. Enanga noted her significant contribution to the police force’s vibrant digital presence and the effectiveness of their communication strategies, often working tirelessly behind the scenes. Beyond her professional duties, she was also remembered as a maternal figure to her colleagues, offering support and solving problems discreetly.
Others who spoke at the Mass included the current Police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke, who called her the “mother of the police public relations department,” and her maternal aunt, Mary Nassaazi, who spoke of her generosity and care for her family. The Parish Priest, Fr. Francis Ssemuddu, lauded her exemplary service, noting her dual commitment as a police officer and a Christian, always ready to protect others even at personal risk.
ASP Namande, born in 1982, joined the police force in 2005 and rose through the ranks to ASP. She will be laid to rest in Nakaseke District.
