New Mbale Factory to Slash Uganda's Glue Imports

Uganda is set to curb its substantial expenditure on imported glues following the commissioning of a new manufacturing facility in Mbale. The factory, Yangtze Industry Limited, located within the Sino-Mbale Industrial Park, has commenced production of adhesives and silicones.
This development is expected to curtail the country’s import bills, which saw over 3,414 shipments of general glue between June 2024 and May 2025. The introduction of locally manufactured glue is anticipated to ensure a more consistent supply for various trades, including carpentry and shoemaking.
Minister for Local Government, Mr. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, highlighted the factory’s role in accelerating industrialization, creating jobs, and enhancing Uganda’s manufacturing and export capabilities. “This will also power the country’s economic growth due to reduced imports and increased exports,” he stated during the factory’s opening.
The company has already secured orders from neighboring East African nations such as Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, signaling a strong potential for increased manufactured exports. Yangtze Industry Limited has pledged to adhere to international quality standards and sustainable production practices.
The Sino-Mbale Industrial Park currently houses 83 factories, employing over 15,000 people and contributing to a diverse range of products including textiles, electronics, and household goods. Local authorities are also encouraging further investment in infrastructure and social services within the park to benefit the community.
