Mobile Court to Prosecute Corruption Cases On-Site, Minister Mao Announces

Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Norbert Mao has revealed that the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) will collaborate with Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara in his ongoing crusade against corruption.
This initiative aims to bring justice closer to the people by establishing a mobile court system. This system will facilitate on-site trials for corruption-related offenses identified during community barazas (gatherings).
Minister Mao emphasized the DPP’s commitment, stating, “The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions will be moving with him. Those who steal money, those who inflate the number of learners, you must know that you are going to prison.”
The mobile court concept is intended to expedite the legal process and serve as a strong deterrent. By conducting hearings directly at the location where alleged corrupt activities occurred or were reported, the authorities hope to increase accountability and public confidence in the justice system.
This innovative approach signifies a proactive stance against graft, particularly within local government structures, where issues like inflated learner numbers have been cited as examples of financial mismanagement.
