Justice Mary Kaitesi, a judge at Mukono High Court, sustained injuries in a road accident that occurred on Sunday night along the Kiryoro stretch of the Pallisa-Tirinyi road.
The incident, which took place around 8:30 pm, also resulted in injuries to Justice Kaitesi’s bodyguard, Corporal Pamela Makirwoth, and the driver of a Mitsubishi Fuso truck.
According to police reports, the accident involved Justice Kaitesi’s Toyota Prado, driven by Godfrey Kaziba, and an oncoming Mitsubishi Fuso. The Prado was traveling from Tirinyi towards Pallisa when it encountered a stationary Mercedes-Benz trailer parked improperly on the road due to a mechanical breakdown. The trailer was reportedly blocking one lane without any warning signs.
In an attempt to navigate around the parked trailer, Kaziba swerved to the right, colliding with the Mitsubishi Fuso truck, which was carrying scrap materials and heading towards Tirinyi. The impact caused the Fuso to overturn, while the Prado veered off the road into a trench.
The injured parties were promptly transported to a local health facility for medical attention. Police are investigating the crash, classifying it as a side-swipe collision. Initial findings suggest that the improper parking of the trailer may have been a contributing factor to the accident.
The damaged vehicles have been towed to the Tirinyi police station for inspection, and measures have been put in place to secure the scene and prevent further incidents.
