Hoima city is experiencing a pronounced deficit in both hotel facilities and housing options, according to Moses Lutalo, the managing director of Broll Uganda.
This scarcity is largely attributed to the city’s burgeoning status as an oil and gas hub and its recent elevation to a city status. The influx of people involved in these sectors, along with government officials and businesspeople, has put immense pressure on existing infrastructure.
Lutalo highlighted that the available hotel rooms are often fully booked, indicating a demand that far outstrips supply. This lack of adequate hospitality services impacts tourism and business engagements in the region.
Similarly, the housing market is struggling to keep pace with the growing population. Both rental properties and units for sale are in short supply, driving up prices and making it difficult for new residents and workers to find suitable accommodation.
This dual shortage presents a compelling investment opportunity. Developers and investors are being encouraged to consider ventures in the hospitality sector, ranging from establishing new hotels and guest houses to expanding existing ones. The real estate market also offers substantial potential for investment in residential developments, including apartments, townhouses, and individual homes.
Addressing these needs could not only yield significant financial returns but also contribute to Hoima’s overall development and its ability to attract and retain talent and investment.
