Lady Justice Mary Kaizetu, 52, of the High Court in Mukono, sustained injuries in a road accident that occurred on Sunday night in Kibuku District. The collision, which took place around 8:30 pm at Kiryoro along the Pallisa–Tirinyi Road, also injured her aide, Corporal Pamela Makirwoth, and two others.
The incident involved a Toyota Prado, registration number UG 2500149, carrying the judge, and a Mitsubishi Fuso truck laden with scrap metal. According to preliminary police reports, the Prado was traveling from Tirinyi towards Pallisa when the crash occurred.
Investigators suggest that a Mercedes-Benz trailer, parked on one lane of the road due to mechanical issues and lacking sufficient warning signs, contributed to the incident. The driver of the Prado reportedly swerved to avoid the trailer, inadvertently entering the path of the oncoming Fuso truck.
The impact caused the Fuso to overturn, while the Prado veered off the road into a roadside trench. The identity of the Fuso driver was not immediately available.
ASP Wilfred Kyempasa, the Bukedi North Regional police spokesperson, confirmed that the injured parties were transported to a medical facility in Kampala for treatment. Their current conditions remain unconfirmed. Police have since towed the involved vehicles to Tirinyi Police Station for inspection and removed the obstructing trailer to a safe location, placing warning signs at the crash site.
