Uganda Mandates 21-Day Quarantine for Students Arriving from DRC Amid Ebola Concerns

The Ministry of Education in Uganda has implemented a strict 21-day quarantine period for students arriving from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This decision comes as the third school term is set to commence on Monday, September 14th.
The measure is designed to mitigate the risk of Ebola virus transmission into Uganda. The government stated that the quarantine order was based on a thorough technical risk assessment.
Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, assured the public that students undergoing quarantine will be closely monitored. Following the completion of their 21-day isolation, they will be cleared before reporting to their respective educational institutions across Uganda.
Uganda was officially declared Ebola-free on August 26, 2026, after successfully completing the mandatory 42-day monitoring period. This followed the discharge of the last patient from the hospital on July 16, 2026. The new quarantine policy underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining the country’s Ebola-free status and ensuring the safety of its students and the wider population.
