Officer Dies by Suicide After Shooting Two at Freedom City

Tragedy struck at Freedom City along Entebbe Road on Sunday when a police officer, identified as PPC Saul Ayijuka, reportedly opened fire, injuring two individuals before ending his own life. The victims were identified as Florence Akankunda, 23, and an unnamed private security guard.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, initial investigations suggest the incident might be connected to a past relationship between the officer and Ms. Akankunda, who sustained a gunshot wound to her thigh and is receiving medical attention. The injured security guard was also transported to the hospital.
Police have secured the scene and collected evidence, including an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and spent cartridges, as part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The body of the deceased officer has been taken to Mulago Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Authorities are continuing to delve into the events leading up to the shooting and the specific nature of the relationship between the officer and Ms. Akankunda to fully understand the motive behind this fatal incident. The police urge anyone with information to come forward.
