Kalangala Fisherman Arrested for Alleged Wife Murder Over Childlessness

A domestic dispute on Buyovu Island in Kalangala District has tragically ended in the death of a 38-year-old woman, with her husband, 50-year-old fisherman Ibrahim Nsereko, now in police custody. The Greater Masaka Regional Police spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, confirmed that Nsereko was arrested on a murder charge and is currently being held as investigations proceed.

Sources indicate that the couple, who had been together for approximately three years, frequently argued about their childlessness. Mr. Kasirye stated, “It is said that this man had, from time to time, been having misunderstandings with his wife resulting from a man demanding the wife to give birth to his child.”

Adding to the marital discord were suspicions of adultery. Police believe these allegations escalated the conflict, ultimately leading to the fatal incident. The attack reportedly occurred at the couple’s home on the evening of September 12, where Ms. Kinyoyozi sustained severe cut wounds, allegedly inflicted with a machete.

Following the incident, Mr. Nsereko fled the scene but later surrendered to a nearby army barracks, where he was subsequently handed over to the police. Authorities have initiated a murder investigation, and Ms. Kinyoyozi’s body has been sent for a postmortem examination. This case highlights ongoing concerns about gender-based violence in the island district, with Bufumira Sub-county identified as having particularly high reported rates.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigators work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. This incident underscores the persistent issue of domestic violence and its devastating consequences in the region.
